According to Berkshire Hathaway Travel Protection, Iceland is the safest travel destination for 2025.

As reported by Travel + Leisure, the North American travel-insurance company released its annual report of safe destinations for travellers last October.

Moving up from 9th place the previous year, Iceland was picked for the number 1 spot.

Exploring new destinations offers opportunities for growth and learning, to experience sights and sounds and experiences unlike anything you would find back home. Iceland is unique in the regards that tourists have little to fear here in way of crime—though travellers should still remain cautious, of course.

But what about volcanoes?

In fact, rather than thieves and the like, it was Iceland’s sporadic volcanic activity that was added as a special caveat to the report:

“Volcanoes. Iceland is a volcanic island, and volcanic islands sometimes have volcanic eruptions. But you’d be hard-pressed to find anyone more languorous about it than the Icelanders.”

How was Iceland picked as the safest travel destination?

Berkshire Hathaway Travel Protection has collected data from 2016, which it chooses to pick which countries are the safest for travellers.

It should be noted that the survey focused on the “attitudes towards travel safety” among American passengers only. Participants were asked to rate the destinations they have visited in the last five years, and their answers were analysed alongside statistics from the Global Peace Index, Numbeo, and GeoSure Global.

Other countries that made the top of the safe travel list include Australia, Canada, Ireland, Switzerland, and New Zealand.
