South and Southeast Iceland are under yellow weather warnings due to powerful southerly winds. The alerts, issued by the Icelandic Meteorological Office, remain in effect until midnight.
Wind speeds of 15 to 20 m/s have been reported near Eyjafjöll, Öræfajökull, and Mýrdalur. Motorists are urged to take caution, particularly those driving rear-wheel drive vehicles or other vehicles vulnerable to strong crosswinds.
The weather today has remained mostly dry and partly cloudy, but rain began falling in the south earlier this afternoon. Rain is expected to move northwards during the evening, bringing wet conditions to much of the country by this evening.
Temperatures have ranged from 8°C to 17°C, with the warmest areas in the north and west.
The rest of the week looks like this:
Sunday: Northeast winds, drizzle in many areas, but drier in the west. Highs up to 16°C in the southwest.
Monday: Continued northeasterlies with light rain in the north and east, clearer spells in the west.
Tuesday: Changeable winds, scattered rain, especially in the south and west.
Wednesday: Light rain in the east; drier and brighter in the north.
Thursday: East to northeast winds, becoming wetter as the day progresses.
Friday: Strong northeasterly winds expected; the southwest may remain mostly dry.
