Yesterday, golfers enjoying the sunshine at Þorlákshöfn Golf Club witnessed an astonishing feat as a married couple each made a hole-in-one during the same round.
As reported by mbl.is, Páll Ingvarsson made the first ace on the par-3 10th hole, driving the ball over 120 metres directly into the cup. “We were just joking about this, after my shot, that it would be fun if Hólmfríður did this too,” he told the news agency.
Remarkably, his wife Hólmfríður M. Bragadóttir followed suit less than an hour later on the 15th hole, also a par-3.
The pair have played together for nearly 18 years and are members of Reykjavík Golf Club. Though it was Hólmfríður’s fourth career hole-in-one, yesterday’s double hole-in-one remains a statistical rarity that might never be repeated.
According to Þorlákshöfn Golf Club, the odds of two players achieving a hole-in-one in the same round are estimated at around 1 in 5.7 million. “Considering the number of annual rounds at Þorláksvöllur, this achievement may not happen again for centuries,” the club state.
